It really works, as I just done a quick take off landing of the Lancaster from Blackpool Airport. Run FS2004 on Windows 10, if you've done it right, you now have FS2004 working under Windows 10. In Windows 10, find the Flight Simulator 9 folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Gamesįind and copy the Flight Simulator 9 folder from the Windows 7 hard drive, then paste it into the above folder on Windows 10. Re-connect the Windows 10 hard drive and boot into Windows 10. Install all your addons, one by one, running FS2004 after each install. Run FS2004 to confirm that it not longer require Disc 4 to run. Install the No-CD patch from /downloads/files/15244/microsoft-flight-simulator-2004-v91-no-cd-patch/ Basically, download, rename FS9.exe to FS9_old.exe Paste the downloaded FS9.exe in place of the original. XP will probably work too, but I had no XP drivers for my graphics card. Install Windows 7 on the spare hard drive. It's long, time consuming and complicated, but it works.įit a spare hard drive to the Windows 10 PC and disconnect the Windows 10 drive. Not wanting to be beaten by Microsoft and loose my sim and addons, I have come up with a work around. It works perfectly for me, hope it does for you. I am pretty confident that this procedure will let you run FS2004 under Windows 10. If you are having video problems running FS9 in Windows 10, read this post: Fs9 under win10 AFAIK, the patch makes no other changes to how FS9 runs. That's it, you should now have FS9 running as before. Start FS9 and it should start without the CD in the drive. Copy the fs9.exe file from the patch file downloaded in step 2 into your main FS2004 folder.Ĭ. Rename your current fs9.exe file (in your main FS2004 folder) to ī. So the solution (at least for FS9) appears to be to install the no-CD patch. Since I use the no-CD patch, I have not been affected by either problem, even after installing the Update a few days ago. I don't know if this is related to this update or not. There are also reports that something is causing parts of a user's FS9 installation to be deleted, usually in a random way. This has been a vulnerability reported for many years (but apparently never used by hackers?) that MS finally got around to closing (even though it affects one or more of their products). This is a security update that removes the capability to to check for a CD in the drive for many older games/sims, including FS2004. It appears that only people that are using the default fs9.exe file (which requires CD 4 to be in the drive) are affected by this. The symptom can also be a message popping up about running as an administrator. There appears to be a Windows Update that is causing FS9 to do nothing when you double click it.
