It may be useful to separate your crafting room into two or more sections, such as the most-used stations versus the more specialized stations. You can check the expanded table instead (by pressing the Hammer button in PC version, Triangle/Y on Playstation 4 and Xbox One and L on Switch). Please note that putting all crafting stations together has the downside of forcing the player to scroll through every potential crafting option to find the one that they need. Additionally, it's useful to assign the Guide to the crafting area, as this will allow the player to look up recipes for items. This area should contain the most-used crafting stations like the Work Bench, Furnace, Anvil, Placed Bottle and Tinkerer's Workshop. Find the closest Altar to your base, build a room around it, and place walls to prevent enemy spawns.Ī base should also include a crafting area in which the Player can craft items. There are several ways to make a bedroom in which players can exit but NPCs cannot: Trap Doors, platforms in ceiling or floor, or actuated blocks.Īltars cannot be moved. Unlike regular NPC houses, it is important to be able to exit a bedroom once you spawn there - especially if the Nurse or Dryad is in there, you may need to quickly lure bosses away from them and your other vulnerable NPCs. The Merchant or another vendor NPC is another option. Placing the Nurse or Dryad here is a popular option, especially if you have an arena nearby this allows a player to teleport home for healing or buff removal in the middle of a fight, and the Dryad's Blessing offers a boost in defense. This room can also double as an NPC house (the bed counts as a "comfort item"). Note that the bed must be chosen as the player's spawn point, merely placing it will not make it work. The player will spawn there upon death, or when using a Recall Potion, Magic Mirror/ Ice Mirror, or Cell Phone. Painter NPCs can also sell various paints and wallpapers to the player to change the colors of the player's base.Įach base should include a room containing a Bed which can be used as a player spawn point. Using more than a few snow or ice blocks can cause snow particles to fall (this is purely cosmetic). Using sand as the floor will allow cacti to grow. However, using grass blocks can bring in vines and other plants. NPC houses can be built from any obtainable Blocks, as long as there are no more than 250 Corruption or Crimson blocks nearby. There are many ways to defend them, so See "Base Defense" below for more details. NPCs may have trouble defending against enemies, so players will need to make sure that enemies cannot get into NPC houses. A house must have at least 60 but fewer than 750 total tiles including the frame around it.To create safer windows, place sections of Glass Wall instead. Having holes in the background walls may sometimes allow enemies to spawn within the house. Background walls not placed by a player (such as naturally-occurring Dirt Walls) do not count, with the exception of Disc Walls in Floating Islands, the Planked Walls found in Underground Cabins, the Sandstone Brick Walls found in Pyramid structures, or the Living Wood Walls in Living Tree rooms.A "hole" is a tile that is neither occupied by a valid solid tile nor a valid background wall. "Holes" that are 5 tiles or more in width/height are not permitted. All tiles must be at least 10 tiles away from the "true" world edges. The frame can only be made up of solid tiles (solid blocks or platforms that are not actuated), Trap Doors, doors, or Tall Gates (only the tiles occupied when the doors are closed will count into the frame).Īll tiles within the range of a house have to meet the following requirements: the internal area is completely unconnected to any tiles outside). The frame must be completely closed (i.e. "Frame" refers to the tiles surrounding the internal tiles.
